Support Those Who Support You!
Make sure you are reciprocating any support you receive. If someone interviews you, features you on their playlist, shares your content, spins your music, etc., make sure you post about it and tag them so the content can be amplified in the algorithm. If someone adds you as a collaborator on an Instagram post about your music, accept the collaboration so your followers can see other people supporting you. This social proof will help boost your profile even faster.

Makin’ It launched in 2007 as a print magazine for those in the urban music industry. From the very beginning, we’ve connected independent talent and industry tastemakers. We would feature up-and-coming creatives like Mike Will, Young Thug, and B.o.B in our magazine then distribute them to industry professionals and executives across the country.
Today we distribute 5,000 physical copies of each issue to 300+ top recording studios, label offices, radio stations, creative spaces, and major industry events. We additionally send monthly newsletters to our email list of 40,000+ industry contacts, and are followed by over 65,000 industry tastemakers and creatives across social media.
We’ve created a system to help you directly tell your story to thousands of other independent tastemakers, creatives, and industry professionals who can help you get to the next level, and it only takes ONE POST PER MONTH!
Building Your Brand & Your Team!
Everything we do revolves around building your brand and getting more people to support your movement.
As a Mimber, you should think of your Makin’ It Profile as if it’s your Wikipedia page. It should be a factual source of up to date information about you, your music, and your brand.
Every month you’ll submit ONE update to be added to your profile and promoted through our network. These updates can include music releases, milestones, and any other career accomplishments.
You can also book a strategy session with a member of our team to help brainstorm and write your updates for you.
Our focus is showcasing your music career in a way that attracts attention, opportunities, and the missing pieces of your team.
Getting Connected
Once your account is properly set up, we start promoting you to our personal network and across social media. We help Mimbers connect by staying out of the way. We don’t gatekeep or try to middleman relationships.
Make sure the social media accounts listed on your Makin’ It profile are NOT set to private, and that your DMs are open. As we promote you, new people will follow you and reach out directly on other platforms.
Network Across
Our site’s Newsfeed shows recent updates from active Mimbers, and the users you personally follow. Check the newsfeed regularly to find other serious creatives to collaborate with.
If you want to stay in contact with a user, follow them to ensure their future updates always appear in your newsfeed.
Get More Followers!
To increase your visibility on the site and gain more followers, just read and comment on other users’ updates. This helps improve your ranking in the algorithm and encourages them to check out your profile.
Increase Your Influence!
Every user has an affiliate link. Use yours to invite new people to join the site and increase your influence score. Influence scores help increase visibility of your updates and ranking for opportunities.
Every new user you refer to the platform will also be automatically added as one of your followers.

Grow the Community & Get Paid
As a Mimber, you can now enroll in our Ambassador Program to help grow the community and get paid at the same time. After joining, you’ll receive a personal promo code to give people you refer a 10% discount on their Mimbership. When anyone signs up using your promo code you’ll receive up to a $100 commission.

Opportunities
When we have specific opportunities for sponsorships, performances, or exposure, we will post them on the site for submissions. As a Mimber, you’ll have access to submit for all of these opportunities.
Our review team selects and notifies winners using contact information listed on your account. Make sure you keep an up to date email, phone number, and address listed.
Other opportunities, like sync placements, opening for major artists, etc. aren’t always posted on the site. Instead, your recent updates and profile may be reviewed in consideration. It’s important to post a new update every month.
Mimbership must be active
Your Mimbership must be active to be selected for any opportunity that is exclusively for Mimbers. If your Mimbership is cancelled it will effect your eligibility for being selected.
If your Mimbership expires for any reason, all submissions and opportunities that you have been chosen for will be voided. This is irreversable.
Please make sure that your Mimbership stays active and that payment details are up-to-date. We don't want you to miss out on any opportunities that were meant for you.
Priority Consideration
Selections for opportunities are considered based on the following factors, listed in order of importance.
1. The Submission - Judges look over the information and content you've submitted for that particular opportunity (Music, Performance Footage, etc) and rank it by quality.
2. Your Profile - Our review team checks profiles and adjust submission ranks based on quality of profile, influence score, and recent updates posted.
3. Mimbership Level - Top submissions will be sent for final selection sorted by Mimbership Level. This means Platinum Mimbers will always appear at the top of the list for Priority Consideration, followed by Gold, Annual Silver Mimbers, and last Monthly Silver Mimbers.
Legacy Mimberships
Our Bronze Mimbership has been retired and can no longer be purchased. If you have an active Bronze Mimbership it will remain active until cancelled. To receive full benefits of our new Mimbership tiers you can upgrade by purchasing at www.makinitmag.com/join. Bronze Mimbers do not not have access to all opportunities, discounts, or resources.
Support Starts with a Post!
In order for people to support what you’re doing they have to know what you’re doing. You post UPDATES on our site and we let people in the industry know so they can organically support it. Watch the video to see a simple example of how this actually happens.
