As a kid, I always got bullied for the shoes I had on because shoes were a big part of being part of the "cool kids" club. I being an African kid (moved to America at 12 years old) my parents did not understand that, they thought I was just trying to con them into buying more expensive shoes. When in reality I was just trying to stay out of being bullied. So I just didn’t let it get to me growing up, but it wasn’t until my 19th birthday that for the first time I got to spend $100+ on a pair of shoes.
